I have the honour to invite your attention to

the fact that while there are three Executive Engineers in the Public Works Department provided for on the approved estimates for the current year, one of them, Mr.Mudie, is, and has been for many years, seconded to the Praya

Reclamtion Staff,h his salary being defrayed from the

Pray Reclamation Funds.

Nor is it probable that .hudie will be gain

available for the duty of an Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department for many years to come for on the

completion of the present, Reclamation there will be the

Reclamation in front of the Eastern Praya to be proceeded

with.

In these circumstances, and seeing that the Dex rtment is thus short of one Executive Engineer, I

hrve to suggest that Mr.Drury, whose promotion to Executive Engineer was recommended in the third paragraph of Sir

H. Blake's despatch No.146 of the 14th. of June last, be

now appointed Executive Engineer on the salary sanctioned
